Description
Built in 1937 as a commemorative tower and chapel Will Rogers Shrine is at an elevation of 8136ft and located on Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This 100-foot tall observation tower was constructed by Spencer Penrose and also serves as his tomb. The tower is named after William Penn Adair Rogers who was an American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorous. Rodgers was a Cherokee Indian and cowhand and one of the greatest ropers of all time. Penrose built many of the city's prominent properties, including the neighboring Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and The Broadmoor resort.
